THIS IS A WARNING TO ALL ANIMAL LOVERS AND ADVOCATES! Do not purchase any animal from this place, Chenil et Chatterie de La Vieille Grange Rouge also known as Les Griffons du Calinou on 4925 ch. Orr in Cookshire-Eaton. We wanted a new addition to our family, so we went to this place and saw a lovely little Ragdoll kitten. We named him Gizmo, brought him home, loved him and then we had to euthanize him a week later, probably due to a congenital disease. He came to us with only one testicle descended, which rarely happens and could have led to cryptorchidism, a genetic disease. I noticed that his walking was 'off' and that he used his nails to keep from sliding forward. Taking him to our veterinarian, she performed x-rays on his back legs, only to diagnose him with patellar lacerations in both knees, meaning his kneecaps painfully slipped out of their sockets because they were malformed (only present genetically or by abuse). He was looking at major orthopedic surgery in 9 months with a 6-week recovery time. We accepted this fate, but then Gizmo started deteriorating. He had massive diarrhea, was vomiting bile and was becoming lethargic. At the vet, our poor baby screamed and then lost consciousness. He had to be resuscitated with oxygen. After an ultrasound, it was discovered that he had enlarged lymph nodes in his belly, most likely due to a congenital disease. His immune system was affected. Our only recourse was exploratory surgery on a kitten only 12 weeks old. We had no choice. We had to let him go. We couldn't put him through any more pain and misery. We gave him 7 days of love and care and hope that he remembers. Don't allow this heartbreaking experience happen to you! And spread this information all over the Eastern Townships of Quebec.
